As a Senior Development Engineer with Syntheon for the past three years Derek has been involved in design, testing, and rapid prototyping. For five years Derek worked with Environmental Aeroscience Corp (eAc) directing a number of projects for DARPA and the USAF. He led the development and testing of the hybrid propulsion system for the Scaled Composites Space Ship One. With the support of Korey Klein and the resources of eAc, Derek designed and built propulsion system for the Civilian Space Exploration Teams’ GoFast launch vehicle. The motor contained over 450 pounds of solid propellant and is the largest civilian solid rocket motor ever made. The flight in May of 2004 reached an altitude of 72 miles making it the first non-government sponsored vehicle to ever reach space, beating Space Ship One by a few weeks. http://ddeville.com/rockets.htm Directed operations of Miami fire equipment for five years including the design of clean agent fire suppression systems.
